It's been a while since my last post, but I thought I'd just get this documented. We moved back to Utah! Boston was awesome, but we knew after about a year that it wasn't where we needed to be with our family anymore. We get asked often why we decided to move and leave such an awesome program. So here's a (long) explanation!
When I met Eric, he was attending Utah State as a biochemistry major getting in all his pre-reqs to apply to pharmacy school. He had just served a full time 2 year mission for the LDS church, so he still had a ways to go. When we found out we were pregnant with Ellie, we decided that he could continue getting those credits in California while we lived with Eric's parents saving money. Before we moved, Eric was able to get his Pharmacy Tech license and get a job working at Target pharmacy in California. We'd been in California less than a year when we found out about a school in Boston that had a few different pharmacy related bachelor programs and a full on PharmD program. He applied to one of the bachelor programs (kind of for fun, really haha) and we found out soon after that he had been accepted! We felt very good about the move and decided to go for it! We planned on being there for 6-7 years getting that bachelors and then going straight to the pharmacy program. In Boston, he continued to work for a Target pharmacy and soon had a job in the Boston Medical Center outpatient pharmacy. Our first few months there had been difficult dealing with unexpected expenses and figuring out just so expensive it was to live in Massachusetts. When he got the BMC job, things seemed like they would be much easier and we were happy! We had made lots of amazing friends, we were exploring the city, and I was learning a lot about myself as a person, wife and mother being away from family for the first time. We moved into a (much) better apartment outside of the city, and we were barely staying afloat. We learned to live with minimum everything haha. As Eric worked at the hospital and at target, he learned a lot about pharmacy and the healthcare field. After 2 years working for different pharmacies, he came to the conclusion that he loved working with medicine and being a part of the health care field, but that he doesn't want the life of a pharmacist. He is much more interested in the business side of the healthcare world, and would rather go for that as a career. The school he was at in Boston was a healthcare school so we decided that if he was going to focus more on business, rather than pharmacy then there was no reason for us to be there anymore. We had both been wanting to end up in Utah, so Eric applied to a school here to finish up his bachelors real quick and then get his masters. The whole process is going to be much much shorter, and save us thousands upon thousands of dollars. Rent in Utah is about half of what we were paying in Mass, the cost of living is cheaper, we don't need a train pass, we're by family, and we get Eric an extra 2+ hours per day since he has such a short commute. Win win win in our book. He got into the school really quick, we found an apartment fast and we just knew we were making the right desicion. We waited a couple of months and then made the drive to Utah! The move was rough, but so so worth it once we were here to spend Christmas with our family. We miss our friends in Massachusetts so much, we miss the beach, the trees... we really came to love the East Coast. We're very grateful we moved to Boston on a whim and figured out so much about ourselves, made friends and went to so many cool places. We don't regret it one bit. But we are so much more at home in Utah and look forward to raising our family here! Fingers crossed that we can stay forever :) Or I wouldn't mind living in Orange County again. Either way haha
There you have it! Sorry for the novel. Have a great day!
